FORMULA 1® OFFICIALLY CONFIRMS TURKISH GRAND PRIX TO RETURN TO RACE CALENDAR WITH 2027 DATE
Formula 1® announced the 2027 FIA Formula One World Championship™ calendar today, confirming the FORMULA 1 TURKISH GRAND PRIX will take place 1-3 October next year. Practice and qualifying sessions will be held on 1–2 October, before the lights go out for race day at TOSFED İstanbul Park on Sunday 3 October.
Türkiye’s return to Formula 1® was first announced in April at a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Following a six-year absence, the championship will once again bring the world’s best drivers and thousands of fans to İstanbul, the city that connects two continents. The TURKISH GRAND PRIX will take place for the tenth time at TOSFED İstanbul Park, one of the championship’s most technically demanding circuits.
TOSFED İstanbul Park: A track built for speed and precision
Drivers will tackle TOSFED İstanbul Park’s 5.3-kilometre circuit, which offers plenty of overtaking opportunities and dramatic elevation changes that test both driver and car. Its most famous feature, the multi-apex Turn 8, is an ultra-fast left-hander that demands exceptional balance and places significant lateral loads on drivers and tyres. The circuit’s combination of speed, rhythm and technical complexity promises close racing and dramatic moments for fans.
Formula 1®’s return will see İstanbul host one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events, providing a major draw for visitors. The event is expected to boost sports tourism and the city’s economy, while increasing international media coverage and raising Türkiye’s global profile.
TGA’s ‘Catch It If You Can’ film attracts global attention
Confirmation of the race date marks the next phase of international promotion for the FORMULA 1 TURKISH GRAND PRIX 2027. The promotional film ‘Catch It If You Can’, produced by the Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA) under the coordination of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, has surpassed 571 million views.
Further activity will include international media projects, digital campaigns and collaborations with international content creators, as part of a global promotional campaign centred on İstanbul.
The FORMULA 1 TURKISH GRAND PRIX’s return to the calendar follows TOSFED’s long-standing efforts, supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. TOSFED will organise Formula 1® races at TOSFED İstanbul Park from 2027 to 2031.
